L-architectes is run by Sylvie Pfaehler and Jeanne Della Casa, both EPFL architects. Building with awareness is the aim of their collaborative work. They explore the profession in the broadest sense of the term, multiplying experiences to fuel their research approach. In 2011-2012, they are guest professors at EPFL, and more generally, they regularly take part in numerous round tables, conferences and other competitions and student workshop juries. Coherence in the art of building is a quest that takes place at every scale and at every stage of the project. The link between multiple components is necessary for a project to make sense. The office is located in downtown Lausanne and employs around ten people. It was founded in 2003 by Jeanne Della Casa, Sylvie Pfaehler and Tanya Zein. In 2009 Tanya Zein retired from the office, and in 2016 Michael Perret joined L-architectes as a partner.

Sylvie Pfaehler and Jeanne Della Casa are also behind "Histoires urbaines". The association's first project is the creation of a cultural house in Lausanne's Flon district: La Datcha. La Datcha is an ephemeral space where musicians and artists are invited, and where many architects give lectures. These encounters nourish their work and encourage them to ask questions differently.
