In 2000, after years of teaching and traveling in Zurich, Bergdietikon, Berlin, York, Boston and Basel, three of us started a studio community in the middle of Zurich in a commercial building at Kalkbreite in Zurich. Today HBF consists of a team of more than 30 mixed talents and personalities, characterized by the three founding members Adrian Berger, Erika Fries & Lukas Huggenberger, as well as Carlo Zürcher in the management.

After 20 years, our work includes a wonderfully rich spectrum of buildings, studies and competition entries: from the streetcar waiting hall to the townhouse, from the pedestrian bridge to the clinic, from the heating station to the urban planning research project, from the single-family house to the cantonal school, from the tree slice to the stadium, from the solar house to the historic industrial site, from the wooden high-rise to the listed residential and commercial building - all these projects illustrate our attitude and our broad interest: we don't build anything that could also stand elsewhere.
