The conversion of the Linz Bridgehead into the House of the Art University is of outstanding significance: in the center of the city, an architecturally exemplary place for teaching and research has been created through the reinterpretation of a building figure that is as historically burdened as it is influential on the cityscape. The redesign is embedded in the context of the city as well as the history and future of the institution and the associated urban political and social perspectives. Thus, the book appeals to a lay and professional audience interested in architecture as well as to readers from the fields of historic preservation, education, and urban politics. In addition to the rich pictorial section, plan material and diverse text contributions, a separate contribution is devoted to the art installation Transzendenzaufzug by Karin Sander.
