Before becoming an architect and energy expert, Eric Nelson was a marine scientist working for the US Geological Survey (USA), where he extensively studied the impact of hurricanes on the US coastline. While studying natural climate disasters, he began to understand the human influence on the frequency and severity of such events. With this realization, he decided to go back to school to pursue a master's degree in architecture and develop a new passion for sustainable architecture. After graduating and working briefly in the U.S., he quickly realized that the U.S. was not open to sustainable architecture, so he decided to return to Switzerland where he worked with some pioneering architects in the field of sustainable building. There he was exposed to a variety of new ideas, concepts and technologies. After working with other "solar architects" for some time, he decided to open his own architectural practice focusing on energy efficiency and renewable energy technologies. Now he offers his wealth of ideas and experience to the U.S. to bring forth collaboration, know-how and technology exchange between the old and new worlds.
