Althaus Architekten Bern AG (Bern)

Among others, Otto Rudolf Salvisberg was Willi Althaus' design professor at the ETH in Zurich. He attended design classes with William Dunkel, while Hans Bernoulli, professor of urban planning may have sparked his interest in neighborhood planning. In 1935 Willi Althaus founded his own office in Bern. During the war years, he managed his office from the field, thus laying the foundation for his professional career in difficult times. In the years after 1948, his list of works not infrequently counts more than 10 completed buildings per year, in these years mainly residential buildings. Various public and semi-public commissions followed. In the sixties and seventies, the number of projects completed per year decreased, but their volume increased continuously. In the list of works of this period, various large company headquarters, extensive home and school complexes and larger residential developments with high-rise buildings stand out. In 1972 his son Jürg Althaus, dipl. Arch. ETH joined the office. From 1975-1980 Willi Althaus gradually handed over the office to him and retired in 1982 after almost 50 years.
